Oil Temp Reservoir Issue

From Mark Schrick...

Problem:
The oil temp sensors are screwed into this reservoir to monitor engine oil temperature. It is found on the lower right hand side of the firewall near the oil screen housing. At the base of this unit the aluminum is less than 20 thousands thick and is welded. The point of weakness is between the main reservoir and the 90-degree elbow shown in the picture. What happens is the reservoir is a being supported by two screws that attaches to the oil screen housing and to a hard line from the main oil reservoir. Due to high vibration in the engine compartment, the unit cracks or in my case broke off into to two pieces. Not much oil was lost and was hard to detect due to the normal amount of oil these engines drip on the ground but it started showing more and more oil than I was accustom too.

Mark's Solution:
I took my unit to be re-welded and had three gussets welded as seen in the photo. This strengthened the unit and should not have any further issues. The entire fix took 1 day and $60 in welding. It took under three hours to remove and replace.

If anyone has anything to add or has experienced this issue, please pop me an email.
