Work that must be completed
to pass this class.
Introduction to Writing has a number of requirements that must be met
in order to pass the course. If all these
requirements are not fulfilled, a student will fail the class regardless
of the letter grade he or she may have. Here is a
list of what I need from everybody. Remember, if you are turning
in a major writing assignment that is more than one week late, it will
be graded out of only half the possible points. Of course, this is
still better than a 0 and a fail for the entire course, which is what you
would receive if you never turned in the essay. Please pay careful
attention to the due dates.
Pre-portfolio -- every student has completed
this requirement.
Papers:
-
Descriptive paragraph
-
Narrative paragraph
-
Illustration paragraph
-
Essay 1 (a revision of one of the above three essays into a 2-page essay).
Some students still need to turn in this assignment -- the
last day I will accept these late essays will be December 12.
-
Essay 2 (Comparison/Contrast of two web pages). Some students still
need to turn in this assignment -- that last
day I will accept these late essays will be December 12.
Note: if you are a student who has not
turned in either Essay 1 or 2, then you must turn in one on Dec. 10 - at
the latest. One of these essays must be revised for the post-portfolio,
so you will need a graded essay back from me before you can complete your
revision, which is due Dec. 15.
-
Essay 3 (Argumentative Essay). This essay is due on Dec. 12 or Dec.
15 (when we take the final).
-
Final Exam (Process Analysis Essay and short grammar test). The final
is from 12:30-2:30, Monday, Dec. 15.
Post-portfolio -- three parts:
-
Copy of illustration paragraph - completed in class several weeks ago.
-
Two short paragraphs (6-10 sentences each) on your attitude toward writing
and your thoughts on Composition I. These were collected on Friday, Dec.
5.
-
A revision of either Essay 1 or Essay 2. This typed revision is due
Monday, Dec. 15 at the start of the final exam. Do not put your name
on this essay because it goes into your portfolio. I will collect
these at the start of the exam and place them directly into your portfolio.
The journals are not considered a part of the major course requirement,
but they are due on Friday, Dec. 12.
