Monday:
- Quiz and discussion over "Take the
World...Please."
Think about:
- How realistic are the fears over Y2K?
- Do you believe as some do in the article that a technological disaster could be a good
thing?
- Have we become too reliant upon technology?
- Think of all the ways we make use of computer technology each day.
- What kind of research topics might emerge from this article?
- Homework:
- Read Chapter Two, "Writing an Essay in Response to a Source: An Illustration of the
Writing Process" (35-77).
- Read "Myths
of Bingeing" from Salon
magazine.
Wednesday:
- Quiz and discussion over "Myths of Bingeing."
Think about:
- How does the writer incorporates factual material, and what effect does her use of
examples and statistics have on her arguments?
- How serious is drinking among college students?
- Evaluate her solutions.
- What kind of research topics might emerge from this article? Under what research
categories would they fit - check listing of categories on the syllabus.
- Paraphrasing activities if there is time.
- Homework: Re-read both essays and come
ready to begin group summary workshops in class on Friday.
Friday:
- Group summary workshop over
the essays.
- Homework:
- Prepare two summary rough drafts (one for each essay) for Peer Review Workshop on Monday
-- check assignment for revision
guidelines.
- Also for Monday, read Chapter Three, "Composing Essays Drawing from Two or More
Sources" (78-96).
- Final draft of summary essay due on Wednesday.
