Narrative Paragraph
Due Dates:
Friday, Sept. 26: Peer Review Workshop. Bring a complete
rough draft to class. It should be completed on a PC and saved to
a disk. In case your disk will not work in the computers in the lab,
be sure to bring a print out as well.
Wednesday, Oct. 1: Final draft due. Make sure it
is typed and double-spaced. The final draft should be 12-15 sentences
in length.
The Assignment:
Write a 12 to 15-sentence narrative paragraph in which you tell a story
about a memorable moment from your life. Look at page 51 in
the book for the specific criteria for the paragraph. Here are some
highlights:
-
Make sure your the first sentence of your paragraph is a topic sentence
that shows the reader where the event took place and your reaction or opinion
about the event.
-
Focus upon a moment or brief period of time. A paragraph on your
trip to Florida would be too big for the length of this assignment, but
a paragraph describing something that happened at Disney World would be
great.
-
Fill your paragraph with concrete sensory words. As with the last
assignment, one thing I'm grading you on is your use of descriptive language.
Your paragraph should create a clear picture of the moment in the mind
of the reader.
-
Use creative action words throughout your paragraph. Instead of walk,
try stroll, amble, slither, skip, etc.
-
Incorporate at least one line of dialogue.
-
Proofread your paper for grammar, punctuation and spelling errors.
