You are expected to do and check the homework in order to prepare for the exams and quizzes.  Although it is not formally counted in your grade, it is crucial to work through the homework in order to master the course material.

The Final and Midterm Exams must be taken on site (at JCCC).  Within the allotted exam time, please let me know when you will take these exams.  We will make arrangements for you at the testing center. You must pass the Final Exam with at least 70% to pass this course.  The final and midterm examinations will be monitored.  Again, you are to take these at Johnson County Community College in the testing center.

All unit exams will be on-line.  You will download them, work them, and send them to me.

       The address is:

I will trust your work on the unit exams as being your own.

There will be two projects to be completed over the semester.  Both projects will require computing software for numerical and graphical visualization.  Not only will the projects have a computing component, but they will also have a written component.  In the written component the student will respond to questions and synthesize their results.  These projects will be distributed on-line and submitted to the instructor by regular mail.

All on-line quizzes will be distributed and collected on-line.  They will be multiple-choice, true-false, matching, and/or short-answer.  They will graded electronically with immediate feedback to both you and I.  You will have to take these quizzes within a prescribed time frame.  Once initiated, each quiz will have a prescribed time limit.

Our class will have a message board (or a threaded discussion board) to discuss course materials, problems, and the like.  Over the course of the semester, you will need to initiate at least five threads relevant to the course.  Over the course of the semester, you will need to respond to at least five threads initiated by other class members.  Although I may respond to messages in some of threads, the idea is for students to network in discussing and solving problems relevant to the course.

SHOW YOUR WORK (or give an explanation) on all homework, tests, and the final exam. Procedures and concepts are as important as answers in math.

NO MAKEUPS for tests, midterm, or final exam. However, tests may be taken early by prior arrangement

No ABSENCE is excused in the sense that you are exempt from work missed or assignments made while you were absent.  It is your responsibility to ask for assignments missed and to ask for extra help from me or from the Math Resource Center.  Keep up with your homework ? it is crucial to your success in mastering the subject.

The MATH RESOURCE CENTER (CLB 212) is available for extra assistance, including free tutoring, group help sessions, solutions manuals, and computer software. Their hours are: MTWR 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
