Creating Specific Equivalent Fractions
Recall that to create an equivalent fraction, just multiply an original fraction by a special form of one.
Here is an example of an original fraction times a special
form of one equaling an equivalent fraction.

Now it's time to create an equivalent fraction
that has a denominator that we choose.
The best denominator to choose is one that is a multiple of the
denominator of the original fraction.
It is handy to know how to find multiples. To find the multiples of 6, just take 6 and multiply it by different numbers.
Here are some multiples of 6.

To create a specific equivalent fraction, follow these steps. Look for the steps in the example then fill in the samples for practice!
Choose the denominator that you want. You are going to make an equivalent fraction that has a denominator of 8. 8 is a good choice since 8 is a multiple of 4.
Figure out the special form of one, by asking yourself 4 times what number equals 8? Now you know the denominator of the special form of one that you need! If you know the denominator of the special form of one that you need, you also know the numerator!
Now, just multiply across the numerators and you have the equivalent fraction that has a denominator of 8.
