Two varieties are known for this date, one an overdate (N-1). Both varieties are scarce, but by no means can they be considered rare. In higher grades (VF or better) this date is a tough coin to find. Most often seen are coins in G to VG condition, most with problems.
The National Numismatic Collection has 7 cents dated 1823. One is a proof, 1823 N-1 (1).
