JCCC VPN Overview

  • The VPN technology at JCCC will allow you to create a secure connection between your home and JCCC computer. Once this connection is established you can remote control your computer located on the JCCC campus and run applications. This technology is called Remote Desktop by Microsoft. Some advantages of utilizing Remote Desktop through the VPN include fast connection speed and the ability to use applications such as Outlook and Banner. When you remote control your JCCC computer no other traffic is allowed through the VPN connection. This mitigates virus and worm outbreaks. Finally, by running applications remotely, the risk of problems associated with conflicts on your home PC are minimized.
  • Minimum Requirements:

Your home computer/ laptop must be running one of the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows Vista/XP/2000

Mac OS X (Intel)

Mac OS X (PowerPC)

Linux (Red Hat, Fedora, SuSE, Slackware)

 

The internet connection at your house or remote location must be broadband, such as DSL or Cable Modem.  Dial-up and Satellite connections are not supported.

Connecting to the JCCC network using the AnyConnect VPN Client

 

1.      Type in the Address field of your web browser:

               https://webvpn.jccc.edu

 

2.      Enter your Active Directory username and password.

 

3.      Select SSL VPN from the group drop-down list and click Login.

 

4.             Click Login to continue

 

 

5.             Click Continue

 

  1. Click on “Install ActiveX Control” located at the top of your toolbar.

 

 

  1. Click on “Install”
    The AnyConnect VPN client will begin to establish a connection to the VPN service.

 

 

  1. Once you have successfully authenticated and connected to the VPN service, you can close your web browser.  You can verify your connection to the VPN service at anytime by looking at the yellow padlock icon in the system tray for the SSL VPN client.

Disconnecting

  1. Right Click the yellow padlock icon in the system tray and choose “Quit”.

Reconnecting

  1.   To connect to the JCCC VPN service in the future point your web browser to https://webvpn.jccc.edu

Remote Desktop Information

To locate the name of your computer at work, right-click "My Computer" and choose properties. Click on the Tab labeled "Computer Name" The Full Computer Name provides the name of your computer. If there is a period at the end of the name disregard it. For example, LIB-RTYRELL1 is the name of the computer listed below:

This is the name you will enter in the Remote Desktop Connection dialogue box:
